Choosing a mold that actually releases

Whatever shape you pick, the material decides how easy your life is. Two-part plastic molds give the classic sphere and crisp seams, but need the press-don't-snap technique from the base recipe. Silicone molds release detailed shapes far more easily — flex one edge and the bomb drops out — though very deep silicone cavities can trap moisture, so give them an extra day to dry. Metal molds chill fast, which helps in humid kitchens.

Size matters more than it looks: a 2” cavity is a single-use bomb, 2.75” is the shop-standard size the base recipe fills three of. Novelty shapes with thin protrusions (horns, branches, tails) break most often at unmolding — pack those sections tightest first.
